Country Gravy

Numbers 14:8 If the LORD delight in us, then he will bring us into this land, and give it us; a land which floweth with milk and honey.

My family looks forward to Sunday mornings around here.

That is the only morning of the week they get a full breakfast, complete with bacon or deer sausage, homemade biscuits (never store-bought), gravy (homemade) and fried eggs (farm fresh from our chickens).

The other days of the week they have to get by with a bagel, oatmeal or cereal.

On occasion Landon (my 8-year-old) will get pop-tarts, which is a real treat for him.

Anyway, I thought I might share my gravy recipe with y’all.

Your going to need about 3-4 tablespoons bacon or sausage grease.

Just remember to use an old skillet.  A skillet that has had gravy or hamburger meat prepared it in will usually cause other food to stick.

Add about 3-4 tablespoons flour to the grease.

Whisk together over high heat.

When mixture starts to thicken and turn brown reduce heat to medium.

Keep whisking so flour doesn’t burn.

Country Gravy

Whisking continuously, slowly pour in about 2 cups milk.

Counrty Gravy

Keep whisking over medium heat until it is thickened to your liking.

Now, get your homemade biscuits out of the oven (see recipe under Breads) and smother them with your homemade country gravy!

Your family will kiss the cook!
